about
I’m jumping into the deep-end of two pools of vulnerability:
1. I’m releasing a song as an independent artist.
2. I’m releasing a song out of pure disappointment and frustration.
The resilience and brilliance shown by the majority of the public over the last two years has been empowering. So it’s been all the more dumbfounding to see our leaders continue to widen the gap between our reality and theirs.
I wrote this song over a year ago, but in the wake of the Sue Gray report, and mass blame game resignations over the last 48hrs I’ve decided to just release it. It’s a song that, disappointingly, continues to become more relevant and scarring.
Eton Mess (A Gaslight Anthem) is available NOW and (for a limited time) 50% of money made will go straight to The Trussell Trust and help feed families from the UK who are suffering.
While our leadership are too distracted covering up parties they claim they never had, we deserve to be able to dance a little.
And so without further ado…
lyrics
Here’s a gaslight anthem for the black screen ravers on a weekday night
Don’t hesitate to live your life or die, but don’t you go outside
I’m telling you to make your plans and then to put them on the shelf
and while your busy dillying I’ll keep on playing with myself
So put the party playlist back on
To drown out all the life being lost
But I know you’re afraid
So I tell you everyday
You’ve really only got yourselves to blame!
He likes to wine and dine us, line our bellies with his Eton mess
One rule for them and one for us, it’s far too rancid to digest
The sycophantic champagne fascists fight to feast upon his bile at night
They lap it up like dogs to please a master who can’t feed them right
You think you haven’t put a foot wrong?
You walk all over everyone
But I hope you’re afraid,
Coz when it comes to judgement day
You’ll really only have yourself to blame
But when the polls come in on BBC One
You can’t have your cake and eat it, you’re done
But I know you’re afraid
Because here comes your judgement day
And you’ve really only got yourself to blame!
